If you're an Iowan, and you're not an asshole, go here http://eqfed.org/campaign/leg_marriage and e-mail your legislators, and then after you've done that, follow the link to e-mail the governor, and encourage them all to NOT ammend the Iowa constitution to ban same-sex marriage.

The constitution is intended to PROTECT the rights of citizens, NOT to take them away. It shouldn't be polluted by bigotry. Tell them this or some version of it. It matters. The opposition is making their voice heard. We need more voices on the side of equality.

Seriously - this will take 2 minutes if you type really slow. You have time. This is important. Do it. Do it now.

I want to get married, and I want to STAY married. Help me do that.

Apparently I haven't looked at Livejournal for about 5 days...Been very busy. I see I've missed a few big things. Were my brain not about to explode, I could properly respond to them (and get through one sentence without having multiple typos to correct before posting).

Joy of joys, with my splitting headache, I now head off to a calculus lecture! We all know how those help ease headaches...I want to skip class, but that would be two missed lectures in a row and I'm already planning on skipping that class on Wednesday...boo on school. It keeps getting in the way of the rest of my life.

Edit: I think I will skip class....I'm really not feeling well. I should go home and rest until I have to go in to work. Maybe I'll finish my statistics homework...and/or unload the dishwasher. Big goals...go me.

I actually somehow ended up with today off...I don't know what to do with myself.
You guys are  boring the crap out of me. What am I supposed to do at work if you don't post?
Something went very very wrong between Thursday night and Friday morning. I have a monstrous headache and a bunch of burst blood vessels in my face and eyes from all the vomiting. This weekend is my least favorite weekend of all the weekends I can remember...

Killing Time

First day of Spring semester...I've got a little less than an hour to kill now that I've printed all the necessary notes for the week. I'm staying nice and toasty in the computer lab until I absolutely have to leave. I'm so glad that on the first day, I only have classes in buildings I'm familiar with, in classrooms I've already been in, with decent parking near by. I think it'll be an okay day.

While I was scraping off my car, my glasses fogged up because of my scarf, and then the fog froze. It was super awesome.

I like my statistics teacher. She has a fun accent, and she's tiny. I'm not exactly looking forward to the 8 a.m. Friday lab all semester, but at least I don't have to go this week.

Next I have Business Calculus...we'll see how that goes.

Tomorrow I have Finance and LSCM. Turns out my finance class requires a special calculator, so I'll be shopping this afternoon...I think I'll try Target and then Best Buy...I know Best Buy has it, but if Target has it, it'll be cheaper. I'm annoyed that I have to get another damn special calculator - I just got one last semester for Business Statistics, and I figured it'd carry me through Business Calc, which it probably will, but nooooo, not Finance. Finance has to be SPECIAL and make me get another damn calculator. And I forget which one, but another of my classes only allows 4 function calculators (the kind you use in grade school), so between 4 classes, I need 3 different calculators. Stupid expensive college.

Oh, and I found out today that it's a good thing my car wouldn't start on the day I was going to sell my books back, because the book I used for statistics last semester is the same one I need to use for statistics this semester. I'm so glad I didn't sell it and then end up having to buy it back. Sometimes car troubles SAVE you money! Probably just this one time though...

P.S. if any of you have seen my backpack, let me know. I thought I put it in the hall closet for the month of vacation, but I can't find it, and it has my tiny stapler and my white-out, and all my pencils and stuff. So...um...yeah. Larissa, find my backpack.

My car

Last week with my vehicle was a bit of an adventure.

Sunday, I went to my car with the intention of heading to Hy-Vee, but my engine wouldn't start.

We realized that day or the next that it was probably a frozen fuel line because I've been using regular gasoline, which doesn't absorb condensation in the gas tank like ethanol gasoline doe. Riss picked up some stuff to put in my gas tank to fix the problem.
It worked like a charm, and I was able to drive myself to my final on Monday night (which I didn't do that well on....but oh well.).

On Tuesday, the weather was kind of nasty, so Riss drove me to my Accounting final (which I aced), and my car sat at home, outside in the freezing rain.

Wednesday morning, I went to my car to make sure it would run, because I had a dentist appointment that afternoon, and my door was frozen shut. It would have been easier to open a back door, but I couldn't, because they were locked, and the lock in the passenger door was also frozen.  The maintenance guy at my apartment building (dirty, but very nice guy) didn't have any lock de-icer, but he DID have a blow torch! We tried to thaw the lock in the passenger door, we tried to melt all the ice holding my driver door shut...no luck.

So I cancelled my dentist appointment and went back inside to study for my statistics exam.

The next morning, I got up at 5:10 a.m. to get ready for my stat final, which Larissa drove me to. I dont' know how I did, but I felt okay about it at the time, so I probably got an A or a B. One of my classmates helped me find the appropriate bus stop, and I used CyRide for the first time ever. It was a lot less anxiety producing than I thought it would be. I should ride the bus all the time.

That afternoon was warmer than Wednesday had been, so I enlisted the aid of two of the maintenance men at my apartment building, along with the blow torch and a crow bar, and we were finally able to open my doors! Hooray! But my fuel line had frozen again.

We got my car running again by Thursday night, and I filled it with ethanol so it would stop freezing...I don't think I'll have that problem again this winter, as long as I don't forget to buy ethanol at least every third time I get gas (I fill up every time it gets down to half a tank).

Friday morning, I went out to my car to make sure the doors would open and the engine would start. I had some trouble with the driver side door, so I went in through the passenger door and opened the driver door from the inside. The engine started fine, but the passenger door wouldn't latch shut! I went around to the driver side and reached across and had to shut the passenger door from the inside to get it to quit popping back open.

I thought everything was fine after that, and I left late that afternoon to return some library books. About 3/4 of the way there, my passenger door FLEW OPEN while I was driving down the street! It only closed when I hit the brakes and took a sharp corner and slammed the door into a pile of snow that the plows left behind. I pulled onto a side street and put the car in park and got out to mess with the door. I tried locking it with it's own lock, which didn't work, so I had to use the power locks and then manually unlock the back doors (there's no way I'm leaving all my doors locked, in case the front one freezes shut again). It was terrifying.

I can't believe how crazy last week was in regards to my vehicle. I handled it pretty well (except the door flying open - I cried a little). It was all pretty funny. And blow torches are awesome.
Holy crap, you guys. Larissa makes AMAZING pork chops. You should try them.
